To set up different voices for VoiceOver open the VoiceOver utility with
Vo f8 then press command 3 to switch to the speech pain of the utility.
I selected Karen as my default voice but you can also have different
voices for different things in VoiceOver. Now to change the voice for
the clock go to System Preferences, Date and Time and select the clock
tab. Check the announce time check box and there will be a button there
to customize the voice for that. Now to change the voice overall for the
system go to System Preferences, Dictation and Speech and select the
text to speech tab.

I am using Karen under Mavericks and she is just brilliant. Superb quality
sound, human like voice, I actually use her as my VoiceOver voice while Daniel
is my system voice and Serina excuse spelling for the clock. Do you feel the
same about Karen? I've even gone as far as removing both Alex and Vicki.
