You can root around in the archives but the short version is that for
many years the Mozilla team only supported the iAccessible2 API which is
not available on the Mac since nobody has bothered porting it. Most Mac
developers wouldn't bother with such a porting effort as the existing
Apple API works just fine. Recently some folks have started working on
adding support for the Apple accessibility API which is available in
Firefox nightly builds. Last I heard it was kind of working but not
ready for prime time. You can try it out yourself by downloading the
