Thanks everyone, I shall try these suggestions. I have had a little more progress in terminal. I have selected FTP from the service browser, type in FTP before my domain. And my username. And have now managed to connect, although it still does not ask me for a password nor do I get any further instructions about how I can actually access the files and folders on the site. Any ideas regarding terminal? I shall try these other options also.
