Actually, it was a piece of cake.  The VO support from the recovery petition 
was quite complete.  I haven't followed the thread re the problems you've had, 
but if a clean install would help, I would encourage you not to be afraid.  I 
found some nice step-by-step instructions at this link:

This is for the MBA, but the steps will be similar.
