Hello everyone,

>From time to time, I assist people via Skype who would like to become familiar
>with VoiceOver. Thus far, all of those whom I have assisted have been unable
>to avail themselves of any visual cues from the screen, i.e. they depend
>exclusively on speech, Braille or both.

I recently met an individual who has Macular Degeneration, and he is now losing
his ability to quickly and effectively visually navigate his MacBook's screen.
Since he lives in Canada and I live in Austria, we have agreed that if
possible, I would assist him in his attempt to migrate from a strictly visual
environment to one where accessibility options are utilized. It has occurred
to me, however, that my assisting him might not be in his best interest since
he will want to continue to use his vision wherever possible and only gradually
transition to an entirely speech, non-visual environment.

While I am totally comfortable helping blind people, I know nothing about
configuring the Mac so that it can best meet his needs. He wants to use his
vision in conjunction with VO but at some time, totally transition to
screenless use of his Mac.

Does anyone know if there is special documentation for situations like this?
While I am basically a can-do person, is it unrealistic for me to render useful
assistance? Knowing this person, I know that he will insist on using his
residual vision for as long as possible.

Any thoughts would be most definitely appreciated.

With kind regards,

Mike
