I'm pretty sure each part is basically recognised as it's own file. So if 
you're listening to part 2 and stop, to resume you'll need to press play on 
part 2 again. If you press play on part 1 it will resume at the beginning of 
part 1. So just remember to press play on the part on which you last stopped.
But for this and other reasons I find it much better to listen to audible books 
on iOS devices. For instance, you can't adjust the playback speed in iTunes, so 
far as I know. And you can't use the track slider to quickly jump forward and 
back within the track.
