Hi Tim:
I have the same problems with my iMap Gmail account. I'm assuming in the mail 
settings on the mac you have delete from server checked? It is an issue on 
Gmail's side. Sometimes it helps to go in to the trash folder in mail and 
command a, then press shift delete.
