Greetings all:
I am experiencing an issue that I would like to bring to this great pool of
brilliant minds.
Recently, I had to have some repair work done on my early 2011 Mac Book Pro.
I have been quite happy with the results of this repair, until today.
Here are the symptoms of my strange issue.
It would seem that my microphone is not functioning.
I have 2 headsets with built-in microphones. they are both made by Cenheiser,
and the work fine with my iPhone.
My silly goal was, to enable speakable items. Accordingly, I went to System
Preferences, assecibility, speakable items. When I first noticed the problem
was while attempting to calibrate speakable items.
I could not seem to do this. Then, I went into sound preferences, activated the
input tab, and was told I was using an external microphone. That made sense, in
that my headset does indeed have an external microphone.
I noticed, though, that I was told that my audio port, which was listed as a
headset with an external microphone was dimmed.
I tried both of my headsets, which are both working, with no joy.
Then, I tried a headset that does not have an external microphone, and then in
the sound input tab, I was using the internal microphone.
To make a long story a bit shorter, neither mike will work with dictation or
speakable items.
When I had my Mac repaired, they said they replaced a microphone cable.
The Mac certainly detects the fact that I'm using a headset with an external
microphone, and it knows when I'm using a plain old headset.
However, neither of my headset mikes or my internal mike are working. The gain
is turned all the way up.
Help!
