Hi Les, A couple more things that, hopefully, may but possibly, may not work. Try them one at a time then see if things are fixed, if they work, then of course, you don't need to do the rest of the options.
1. Press VO-shift-d to force focus on the Desktop. 2. Click your mouse or trackpad once on the Desktop. 3. Try a new Finder window, cmd-n. You may need to do a cmd-w right away after that if a window opens due to your settings. 4. Log off then back on to your account. 5. Restart your computer. 6. Pour yourself a stiff drink and curse Apple under your breath. 7. Try to repair your Disk Permissions using Disk Utility. Not sure what to do beyond that. It still works for me so I can't duplicate things right now. P.S. Depending on your lifestyle choices, #6 is optional. Later...
