Hi Harry, I can't solve your problem but as you asked, yes I have limited success with java applications on the mac. I can read parts of their interface, and routing your mouse and clicking, seems to be the way to go, as opposed to using the default action from voiceover, i.e. vo spacebar on the item. As long as you can trigger actions by routing and clicking, it's doabler, but agreed, far from nice.
