Hi,

I've copied and pasted below a portion of a web-page I used to have regarding
TextEdit. Editing text within TextEdit is similar to using other Word
Processors on the Mac as the MacOS tries to make actions similar across similar
applications. This has not been updated in a couple of years but I believe
that all of this is still relevant. With respect to your questions about
copying and pasting within the Bookmarks Bar, you'll need to use the "Show All
Bookmarks" option under the Bookmarks menu if you wish to Copy and Paste things
within the Bookmarks Bar. There are Contextual menu commands available within
the Bookmarks Bar when you press VO-shift-m on any of the Bookmark Bar buttons
but things are far more accessible when in the "Show Bookmarks" window.

Getting Started

To use TextEdit, simply open it from your Applications folder then interact
with the Edit field. To open Word documents, you can select the given document,
open a Contextual menu (VO-shift-m) then choose "Open with", then choose
TextEdit. You can tell the Mac to always open these sorts of files in TextEdit
by selecting a .doc file, pressing cmd-i (Get Info), then navigating to the
Open With area. Once there, you can tell the OS to always open these file types
with a specific application, in this case, TextEdit.
VO Commands in TextEdit

When navigating through text in TextEdit, you can use the following commands.
These commands can also be used when navigating through text in some other
applications. A reminder that VO means CTRL-Option.
VO-a: Read all the text. If you are interacting with the text, you will read
from the VoiceOver cursor location to the end of the text.
VO-s: Read the sentence in the VoiceOver cursor.
VO-Page Down: Read the next sentence.
VO-Page Up: Read the previous sentence.
VO-p: Read the paragraph within the VoiceOver cursor.
VO-Shift-Page Down: Read the next paragraph.
VO-Shift-Page Up: Read the previous paragraph.
VO-l: Read the line within the VoiceOver cursor.
VO-Down Arrow: Read the next line.
VO-Up Arrow: Read the previous line.
VO-w: Read the word in the VoiceOver cursor, press a second time to spell the
word and a third time to spell it phonetically.
VO-Right Arrow: Read the next word.
VO-Left Arrow: Read the previous word.
VO-c: Read the character at the VoiceOver cursor. Press again for its phonetic.
VO-Shift-Right Arrow: Read the next character.
VO-Shift-Left Arrow: Read the previous character.
VO-Home: Move to the first visible word and read it. On a laptop computer,
press VO-FN-Shift-Left Arrow.
VO-End: Move to the last visible word and read it. On a laptop computer, press
VO-FN-Shift-Right Arrow.
VO-Shift-Home: Move to the beginning of the text, scrolling if needed. On a
laptop computer, press VO-FN-Shift-Left Arrow.
VO-Shift-End: Move to the end of the text, scrolling if needed. On a laptop
computer, press VO-FN-Shift-Right Arrow.
VO-t: Get text attributes.

Editing Text

Editing text within TextEdit is similar to editing in other word processors
although it's good to note a few differences in the way VO travels compared to
other screen reading software. When navigating with the down arrow, VO will
land at the end of the line of text that it is reading. When navigating with
the up arrow, VO will land at the beginning of the text that is read. When
navigating with the right arrow, VO will land at the end of the word or letter
announced. When navigating with the left arrow, VO will land at the beginning
or to the left of the word or letter announced.
Setting Tabs

To set tabs in TextEdit, navigate to the ruler and Interact with it:
VO-space: Set a tab stop at the given location on the ruler.
VO-Delete: Remove the tab stop at the given location on the ruler.
VO-shift-Down Arrow: Interact with a set tab stop. Then use the left or right
arrows to move the stop accordingly.
Line Spacing

To set the Paragraph and Line spacing in TextEdit, navigate to the ruler and
Interact with it, then navigate to the Paragraph and Line Spacing pop-up menu
and choose the spacing you desire.
Selecting Text

To select text in TextEdit:
Shift-Right Arrow: Highlight the next character.
Shift-Left Arrow: Highlight the previous character.
Shift-Down Arrow: Highlight from the cursor position to the same position on
the next line.
Shift-Up Arrow: Highlight from the cursor position to the same position on the
previous line.
Option-Shift-Right Arrow: Highlight the next word.
Option-Shift-Left Arrow: Highlight the previous word.
Cmd-Shift-Right Arrow: Highlight from the cursor position to the end of the
line.
Cmd-Shift-Left Arrow: Highlight from the cursor position to the beginning of
the line.
Cmd-Shift-Down Arrow: Highlight from the cursor to the end of the text.
Cmd-Shift-Up Arrow: Highlight from the cursor to the beginning of the text.
Spell Checking

Spellchecking documents using TextEdit is quite easy to manage. Simply press
cmd-semi-colon to begin. TextEdit will stop on the first word it determines to
be spelled incorrectly and announce "word Highlighted", where "word" is the
misspelled word. Press VO-shift-m to get a Contextual menu where alternative
choices for spelling will be available. Arrow up and down through the choices
and press Return on the one you like. If you are unsure of the context or exact
spelling mistake you made, simply navigate so that you can hear the sentence,
phrase or specific spelling error. Once you have completed corrections to the
spelling error, press cmd-semi-colon to move on to the next misspelled word.
You can tell TextEdit to "Ignore" misspelled words or to "Learn" spellings of
words it is not familiar with. If there are no more misspelled words, TextEdit
will announce "Check Spelling" then make a "thud" noise to let you know that
everything is OK.
Most other features of TextEdit are self-explanatory and no different for VO
users than for sighted users. Remember that key combinations are announced
after each specific menu item when using the menu-bars. Take time to
investigate and learn how easy it is to create and edit documents within
TextEdit.

Good luck.
