Hitting down (F1/F5) about 10 times should totally turn off the screen
or keyboard backlighting and likewise you can bring it up to full
brightness by doing up (F2/F6) about 10 times. Main thing is to make
sure it's all the way down so the backlighting isn't sucking up battery
power. Not such a big deal when plugged in but if I'm at a conference
taking notes and such I can easily get 7-8 hours out of my laptop if I
keep the backlighting off.

Thanks for the clarification Neil.
I think, I shall not bother touching this then.

no, F1 and F2 adjust the screen brightness, F5 and F6 adjust the back
lite on the keyboard.
sadly, the key board back lite measurement increment is not read as a
percentage as the screen back light is… thus, you have no way of
knowing when the back lite is off fully or up fully.

turn it back on again please?
Thank you.
