You're talking about just a number at the bottom of the page that
increments automatically, not embedding a piece of spreadsheet from the
Numbers app, right? If so, I think you just need to pick Auto Page
Numbers… from the Insert menu. That will pop a dialog with choices like
centering, top/bottom of page etc.
