if you want your trash folder accessible via a command number keystroke, you 
can add it to your favourites bar. Interact with your mailbox list, arrow to 
the folder you wish to add, mark for dragging with vo , then stop interacting, 
vo left arrow to favourites bar, interact, vo left/right arrow to the spot you 
want it to be, after the 3rd folder name and it will be fourth with command 4 
etc. Now, drop the folder with vo . and fingers crossed, it'll be in your 
favourites bar.  

Some people, myself included have a problem rearranging folder order or 
removing folders from the favourite bar since MountainLion but 99% of the time, 
adding them works well.
