Once you have done this, if ou see something on your Desktop called "Skype, volume," you can press VO-shift-M on it, and go down to "Eject" and press return. This will then allow you to delete the .dmg file while keeping the Skype.app file in your Applications folder.
This is the same process for installing other applications with .dmg files. Hope htis is helpful.
