Cheryl is quite correct.  You're making to much work and worry for yourself.  
You need only stop a recording by pressing command+r as you did to start a 
recording.  Command+g is only a command to hi jack audio-not to record it.  AS 
for playing the files, any player of your choice will do.  If you want just to 
listen, why not find the file in Finder, and then, press space to activate the 
quick look?
 Also, when you set to record from any appplication, Audio Hijack pro will find 
the audio being played by that application and just grab it.

IF you want to do a recording of yourself and all system sounds, I'd select the 
system audio choice.

I'd make sure also to select a microphone that's part of a headset-thus helping 
you avoid feedback.
