Another suggestion is to check how many windows are open in the various applications that are running. On the Mac, closing all windows does not close an application, so make sure that you quit applications that are not in use.
After that, there's the good old Repair Permissions, and from time to time, the reinitialisation of the PRAM. I hardly ever get the Busy problem.
