Hi Stacey, You need to turn off NumPad Commander to use the NumPad as a calculator? I think you can turn this on or off by pressing VO-Clear, where the Clear key on the NumPad might be above the "7" key. You can certainly turn off NumPad Commander from VoiceOver Utility (VO-F8), under the "Commanders" menu in the NumPad Commander tab by unchecking it. then when you're using the Calculator application, you can simply press the NumPad keys for the numbers and operations. Incidentally, you can also access the Calculator and NumPad commander key definitions from a laptop keyboard if you install an free (donationware) application named KeyRemap4MacBook. You just have to press the Fn key in addition to corresponding keys for the embedded keyboard on the right side of the keyboard. I found that I could turn NumPad Commander off with VO-Clear using the embedded NumPad keys (with Fn key), but to turn it on again, I either had to turn VoiceOVer on and off and press VO-Clear, or I had to use VoiceOver Utility.
You may get a better answer from someone who regularly uses an extended keyboard. HTH.
