One thing I've found useful when trying to figure out where all my disk space went is to turn on "Calculate All Sizes" which is a checkbox in the View Options which is in the View menu. It takes a while but it will populate the Size column in list view with totals of space used for every folder in the list. That way you can spend your time where it will make the most difference.

Open Disk Utility, make sure the correct disk is selected and the first aid tab is selected, then you can click either verify disk permissions and or repair disk permissions. Results will be shown in the appropriate table.

Hello everyone,

What kind of hard disk utility manager have users of this list found accessible?
Unfortunately, Daisy Disk is not accessible.
I have already completed the recommended tasks: emptying the trash, and deleting e-mail messages, but I have not yet moved things to an external disk because I already perform weekly back-ups. When moving various large folders I get an error message indicating the task cannot be completed because not enough room is on the hard disk. Thus, I am interested in knowing what space is being knowingly or unknowingly used because I have a 1TB hard drive, which should not be full.

Thank you all for the help.
