I've had a chance to play around with VIPs in Mail in Mountain Lion and would just like to reconfirm what Cheryl told me the other day for the benefit of everyone.
Perhaps everyone is already aware of this, but if you move to the headers field within an open Mail message and interact with it, there is a 'read' button. This, by the way, is just using the default Mail view; I don't think I use Classic view, whatever that is. Anyway, I had thought this 'read' button was to mark the message as read or unread. But no, it's actually to add/remove the sender as a VIP. The help tag announces that it is to add/remove the sender as a VIP, but if you're like me and never paused on it long enough to hear the help tag you may never realise this. I'm not sure why this button is called 'read', but it is. The help tag is a much better label for this button. This may be worth an email to accessibil...@apple.com.
