Hello Chenelle, VueScan costs $39.95 for a one-year license, or $79.95 for a lifetime license. It supports the vast majority of scanners and produces excellent images. It can also do OCR but isn't as good as ABBYY FineReader for this. I think that FineReader costs around $80 dollars but can't say for sure as I'm in the euro zone not the US.
You have to buy VueScan direct from the developer, at <https://www.hamrick.com/reg.html> So, the combination of VueScan and ABBYY FineReader is cheaper than DocuScan but takes more setting up. I put together a little user guide for VueScan with ABBYY FineReader, so if you choose to go that route, let me know and I'll send it to you.
