Hi Les, Open System Prefs. Type the letter A and you will be taken right to accessibility. Press VO-Space to select. Press tab to get to the Speakable Items. VO-Arrow to Settings and press VO-Space. There you'll see Microphone, and the default is the internal mic. Change this if you plan to use an external microphone. Next to that is a Calibrate button. Press it, and you'll see a slider, which you can adjust up and down with the arrow keys. You'll also see a series of phrases that you are to speak to test recognition. You'll know that the mic is calibrated properly when you hear the little whit sound whenever you speak one of those phrases.
