Well, you going to dictation and speech. That's off the system preferences 
window. Then, you turn the dictation on by pressing the radio button. A 
dialogue will come up explaining what dictation is and a little bit about how 
to use it. Then, if you want to use the default key, you just use the FN key 
twice to start dictating when you get in to a text area.  Your Mac wil ping at 
you to let you know it's listening.  When done, just press FN once and you will 
be pinged at again to let you know it's not listening.  There's a limit; so, 
you can only go so far before you get pinged at to let you know it can't take 
anymore.
