Hi, I had to try it myself to see what you were talking about. Here is how to get rid of it. Open any folder where this is happening, my guess is the home folder. Open view preferences by pressing Command-J. Uncheck the check box for "Kind". It's interesting that if you are looking at a folder, VoiceOver will say "folder". But if "kind" is checked, it will show you visually that it is a folder, which VoiceOver will then say "folder" a second time. Probably not a bug, but does seem a little odd.
