THe Side bar is a set of shortcuts. Generallly your most common folders and several automatic icons appear there.
It is an attempt by Apple to reduce the complexity of a modern computers disk directory. So if you select the Music icon in the sidebar then only the folders contained in the Music folder of your home directory will be visible in the Main viewing pane of the finder window. THere are 4 basic views for the primary window: 1 Icon view (accessed by command-1) 2: List view (accessed by command-2) 3: Browser Mode (Accessed by Command-3) 4: Cover Flow Mode (Accessed by command-4) Most blind users prefer either List mode or browser mode. Icom mode will generally have icons arranged in fairly random order around the window where they can be draged as a person prefers. Cover flow is supposed to be like looking at a stack of Albums one or two at a time.. You get a scrolling set of pictures of all the documents in a folder) THe list mode is fairly to details view on a Windows computer though I don't remember if Windows allows one to open a folder in place in a tree view style mode. Browser mode takes a bit more to understand, but I prefer it 90% of the time. With browser mode the left and right arrows traverse into and out of folders and up and down gives you a sorted list. One issue with browser mode is it is difficult to get filesize or dates. Hope this helps you along the way. Jonathan Jonathan C.
