If you downloaded the app, likely it's in your "downloads," folder as a "dog 
dmg," file.  Locate it, and open it.  Within the folder of the same name that 
is created, find the "dot app," file.  Copy and paste it to your "applications 
folder."  Then, open that file to launch the applications.  system preferences 
doesn't enter into it until you launch the application for at least the first 
time.
