I am looking to do the same. I have a sony HCR-DC52 handicam and it is hooked up to my mac as a webcam right now. I have some tapes that I need to transfer to disk.
the only stumbling block is the cost of the new iLife package. I don't want all that other junk, just iMovie. currently I am running iMovie 08 which has some accessibility issues (it doesn't tell me the number of clips in the clip frame for instance) and most of the buttons are unlabeled.
