Hope not, too. But I did notice something when I went to wipe out my
virtual machines. The first one created was only about 90 meg, the second
one over 3 gig. Wondering if something went wrong with the first and it was
affecting the second. I have wiped them both out and this time I will
install from the ISO I downloaded from the MS store and leave my Fusion disk
in the drive.

Hello Bill.

I have just had one thought as you talk about your serial number.

Some months ago, I installed a new virtual machine running windows 7
(bearing in mind) that I had installed the same operating system many times
since I bought this retail version in 2010 when I was in the USA.

So when I re-installed the same again, I could not register it and had to
call Microsoft Automated system to get my code reset. The reason for me to
tell you this was I could not install the VMware tools until the machine was
properly registered again. Hope you are not having the same issue.

It's an upgrade version, and VM says to install the machine without the
serial number, then do a Window's anytime upgrade at which time you put in
the serial number. This worked the last time I did this with Version 3x.
But I did notice the two times I created virtual machines that the process
seemed to take no time at all. The frist time I figured maybe Windows had
not installed properly, tried it again, just as fast, but I didn't delete
the first VM first. Let me try it that way.

But how can the tools install automatically if they need the VM disk to be
in the drive if I have the windows disk in the drive? Am I better off
installing Windows from the ISO file I got when I bought this upgrade
version and leaving the VM disk in the drive?

the best thing I can suggest is to first off delete the virtual machine.
then build a new machine. depending on how you wish to install windows, it
will either ask for your serial number on the VMWare prompt or on install.
start a fresh install. when windows has finished loading, it should
automatically install the VMWare tools including boot support tools.

it may be a hickup. what windows version are you installing and is it a
retail disk you're using or OEM or custom?

Hi.

I have the Fusion disk burned and in my drive. In the Fusion virtual
machine menu it says there is windows is running. But if I try to install
the tools I still hang. My wife says the screen is blank except a message
that says boot manager is missing, press control alt delete. I have tried
this, nothing happens.

Any suggestions?
