Cheapest monitor I could find with shipping and all was pushing $100 so
it's not a whole lot cheaper to go the adapter route, but $40 is $40,
especially if you don't have room.

Absolutely. If you can get a monitor, that is obviously the easiest
solution. In my situation, I don't have the space for a monitor with the
current setup. So, the converter box and adaptor fit the bill. However, I do
have a monitor around in case I need sighted assistance. I just wanted folks
to know that there is a setup that will work if they don't have a monitor and
that Apple is not completely aware that the newer Minis still can't work well
without a monitor. Please contact me off list if anyone wants the actual
hardware recommendations that were suggested to me and I now use.

John, thanks for the tip that this option is still available.
I wonder though; -seems like for the price, one might just as well by an
inexpensive monitor! lol!
Thanks again and have an awesome day!…

No, you can still fool the newer Minis into thinking you have a monitor. I
have a mid 2011, and it works fine without a monitor. You need to get a mini
VGA display port and a converter box. It's a setup that will run about $60 in
total, but it works fine if you really don't want or you don't have a monitor.

You definitely need to at least have a monitor connected, the older minis, from
before 2008 could get around this by connecting the adapter that allows you to
connect it to a TV through the RCA plug. All newer minis however, must be
connected to a monitor, no way around it.

Beofre I bought my Mini I called Apple twice and asked if this would be a
problem. They assured me it would not. Recently dealing with another
related issue they told me they had never received any complaints about
minis not working properly without a monitor. I sent htem a half dozen
emails from people who had. Now they don't respond to me anymore.

Subject: Re: Major Finder Problem Caused by Dropbox!
Do you have the mac mini connected to a monitor, if not, it may cause this
kind of behavior, the monitor does not need to be turned on, just connected.

I just installed Dropbox this afternoon on my new mac mini. I thought
it installed OK and it even synced up my files from the host but now I
constantly get "Finder busy" all the time whenever I open *ANY* window
in the finder! At this point, the Finder is completely useless while
the Dropbox app is running. If I go into my login preferences and
remove Dropbox from the startup list and log back in, I can use the
finder like always. As soon as I launch Dropbox from the
applications folder or allow it to run at login, Finder goes to hell
in a handbag!
Has anyone else experienced thins kind of thing?
Note, I am using a mac mini without a monitor connected. I surely
hope this isn't also going to be a problem like the auto starting of
VO when no monitor is connected.
Hey, I really want to use Dropbox but this performance hit is a show
stopper for me.
