trying to record videos

Hello group;  I would like to start recording and posting videos to  
youtube.  I understand that i can do this with the eyesight camera and  
one of the many sotware programs including the quicktime pro i have on  
my macbook.  what I want to do is find out if there is a camera i can  
control from my mac but have it set up at a place where I can stand or  
sit and know i'll be in focus.  I don't want to have to wait until one  
of the family can tell me if its right or not.  and obviously its much  
easier to record a video when the house is empty.  any suggestions.   
I'm hoping this will be a beginning that will lead to more difficult  
projects like an interview or taking a road trip. any help will be  
greatly appreciated. thanks, max
