I know next to nothing about either/or, so at the moment I'm not using Crome
Vox, and I don't know how to enable plugins with Crome, or even where to
find them without having to google them and wade through the mass of stuff
hoping to find what I'm looking for.

Do you have plug ins enabled in chrome, also, are you using voiceover or
chome vox with chrome? Voiceover has an issue where it doesn't always
click links in chrome, so you will want to use chromevox instead.
