Hi all, Well here's a couple of other views about this! I hope you find them of use! Thanks to those who wrote them! [Not me! :] ]
I didn't really like either of the ideas that have been mentioned for preventing safari from reopening windows from the last session, so I went looking for something else. I didn't want to disable the feature system-wide, because it is still a very nice thing to have in other applications. And I don't want to get into a routine of pressing command+option+q, because I might instinctively press it in a different app where I want it to remember my windows. Anyway, I found an article on osxdaily.com that describes a terminal command line trick to disable the feature on a per-application basis. Just enter this in the terminal to keep safari from remembering your windows. defaults write com.apple.Safari NSQuitAlwaysKeepsWindows -bool false Here's a link to the full article. http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/01/turn-off-resume-per-app-in-mac-os-x-lion/ Hope someone finds this useful. I sure did. In addition to the global setting James mentioned, there is a way to quit individual applications without saving the current window state. Just add the Option key to your preferred method of closing the application. FOr me, I generally quit applications by pressing Command+Q, so I would press Command+Option+Q to quit Safari if I didn't want Safari to open with all my current windows next time I launch it. Interestingly, the addition of the Option key seems to act to toggle the behaviour of the current global setting. I have the global setting unchecked and if I want Safari to remember my current set of open windows, I can press Command+Option+Q to quit. Next time I launch Safari it will resume with my current set of open windows.
