Hello Denise, ABBYY FineReader for the Mac does very good OCR, but as far as I can tell, it only processes one scan at a time. I therefore use VueScan to scan as many pages as I want into one file, which FineReader then processes with no difficulty. The resulting text file opens automatically in TextEdit.
I have VueScan set to create a TIFF file, and have set all TIFF files to open with ABBYY FineReader, so that the handover from VueScan to FineReader is automatic. The number of scanners supported directly by ABBYY FineReader seems limited, but VueScan supports most scanners, including many that have been around for a long time. Remember that ABBYY FineReader for Mac is an express version so not at all tweakable.
