Ahh, I'm still on Snow Leopard. So maybe something broke or there you need to turn up verbosity? At least on the VoiceOver utility on 10.6 in the Verbosity section under the Text tab the third item is "While typing speak" and I have mine set to "Words" while other options are "Characters", both or nothing.

Are you using Lion? I am not able to even get word echo when I press the space

provides but word typing echo would be a start. However I cannot even get this.

So when typing in a Open Office Writer document I get the word echoed each time
I hit the space. Are you saying you would like every keypress echoed? It is
true that accessibility in Open Office has issues, but I didn't think this was
one of them.

I have tried multiple installs of Open Office but I cannot get any typing echo

I can review a line that I have typed in Writer for example if I press VO L but
can find no way to get any other kind of echo.
Is this normal. I have heard that this application has only limited
accessibility.

Thanks
