Hi Iona, To add to this, when you download an app from the app store and you hit install in the store, it will automatically be download, and be put into your applications folder. When you install other, single file apps yourself, you do the same thing manually. In other words, you can either download an app from a website, if the developer makes it available that way, and you will then manually need to install the app, usually by taking it from a downloaded dmg file and putting it into your applications folder yourself, or, you download it from the app store, instead of the developers website, in which case everything happens automatically, i.e. it installs into your applications folder and the licensing then has been taken care of by the app store.
To uninstall an app, it depends on the app how to uninstall it. There are 2 main procedures. 1: Delete the app from your applications folder, or 2: run an uninstaller if available. The simplest, and this is allowed for most apps, is that you just delete it from your applications folder and it is gone. If the app is a background service though, like dropbox and others, you may need to terminate the app first, then remove it from your login items in system preferences, and finally you can then delete it from the applications folder. Another thing to remember is that most programs leave data elsewhere, for example in your own home folder under library. Safari does it, Skype does it as well, like many other apps. So, just deleting skype.app from your applications folder, will not get rid of the data thet Skype leaves behind in your home folder. The second procedure, as opposed to just deleting the app from your applications folder, is to run an uninstaller that came with the app, or you can sometimes download one separately. You don't need launchpad to uninstall something. I don't exactly know what you mean by rearranging icons in iTunes on your iPhone. Hth, Paul.
