Hello Jenny and all: I do not know how long it has been since you got dropbox installed and running. I had posted some photographs to my dropbox account and then installed it on another computer. It took a while ... a while defined as about 20 minutes because I was using a slower connection than the one at the office and there were a number of videos.
As for the other files that were placed in your account by someone else, they should appear although how they were placed in terms of structure may be effecting your being able to see them.
