Hi All, SmileOnMyMac's TextExpander is on sale at $17.95 for the next nine and a half hours or so as today's MacUpdate Promo (sale price is from this site only, and not through the App Store): http://www.mupromo.com/deal/1628/7024/textexpander
I'll paste in the description below, but basically this app allows you to custom define snippets that you type that expands into much longer phrases, and the snippet definitions work in all applications on your Mac. There are a number of pre-defined snippets that you can download or enable, too, which cover things like automatically typing today's date or time, or typing in CSS or HTML code (inserting the code sequences with proper enclosing items about the term or link that you just highlighted/typed, etc.) This is especially useful if you also have the TextExpander Touch app on your iOS device, because you can sync the snippets, and because that app is supported in many note-taking apps to speed up typing on the virtual keyboard. I find the iOS counterpart app a big time saver for typing accented words and special symbols on the virtual keyboard, and either the desktop app (currently on sale) or the iOS app can expand to characters and text symbols in other languages and non-Roman alphabets as well. I do, personally, find TextExpander to be a useful app, but this may not be for everyone. It doesn't go on sale that frequently, so this is worth a note. The MacUpdate Promo site requires you to register and create a login, which requires a one-time negotiation of a CAPTCHA. After this, your account will keep a record of your previous software purchase receipts and registration codes. This is a very accessible app, and you'll hear a distinctive sound when the snippet you type is being substituted. This app is also sold through the App Store at full price ($34.99 instead of $17.95), but you can't do a trial download if you purchase through the App Store.
