Iona, Here's an answer to your first 2 questions. 1. To go to the top of the message list in Lion mail with classic view off, it's vo shift home for top, and vo shift end for bottom of message list. If you have a laptop, then home is fn plus the left arrow, and end is the fn plus right arrow.
2. When writing a message, as long as you reply to something, then yes there's a way to jump directly into the message body with vo end, so vo end, not vo shift end as above. Vo end will move the vo cursor to the last visible object inside the scope, so if you're interacting, then it moves to the last object there. However, if you start a new message, then you will have to find the subject field and fill it in before moving to the message text. Hth, Paul.
