One thing you want to ensure is that you have the "allow VoiceOver to be controlled with applescript" checkbox to be checked. This is in the general section of VoiceOver utility. If this box is checked, the script will use VoiceOver to speak the time. If it isn't, the script will use the say command to do it. There still may be a bit of a pause if you haven't used the script in a while, but it does seem to be a bit faster if that box is checked. Darcy
