I do it a little differently now and I think easier. First of all, I have created hotspots for the mailboxes table and messages table, that makes it easier to find them. Secondly, when you are on a conversation, simply hit tab. This will bring you into a content area and you can use vo+up and down arrow or just up and down arrow if you have quick nab on and vo will read each message.
