Hi Dona,
I'm not sure what is happening in your case.  I didn't have an install failure, 
and in fact the whole process was quite seamless.  I'd recommend trying again, 
after perhaps restoring to a known good backup of 10.6.8 if you have one, just 
to be sure.  All I did when installing was click Continue a few times and let 
the mac restart, after which I could hit cmd-F5 to start VO.  The installer was 
completely automatic, and the only thing I needed to do was hit restart at the 
end to finish things up.  
I'm sorry not to be more helpful, but I'm not sure what else to tell you as my 
own experience was quite dissimilar.
