Hi Shannon, Me thinks that either you have an old version, or something got fubared during the install process. As Geoff said, all growlable apps automatically register. On my system this list includes: Adium, Growl, moveAddict, Skype, and Pulsar. The fact that Growl is not on your list is the reason for my theory.
There was a recent update to Growl which may not be included in other app's installations, so you may want to Google up the Growl site and install (or reinstall) the current version. Best regards.
