That article is a little old now. There are some things that GMAIL has changed and there are weirdnesses that Apple has done with SPAM / Junk folders in 10.6.5 I believe. Except for possibly the use of the Spam folder, I think most of the article will still work. The big change on the GMAIL side is the creation of "Important" folder that attempts to figure out what you really want to read.
