Hi Matthew!
I've got two suggestions!
1, go to vo utility and under navigation change the mouse cursor to follow vo 
cursor!
And if not that!
2, you could set tile visuals with the command vo+f10 This leaves [if you got 
normal screen] just the vo cursor and caption panel visible on a darkened 
screen!
I do not know if either option would be of use to your problem!
