Hi Matthew,

I've been ripping a large number of DVD's with Hand break over the past few
weeks. Most of them are TV documentary series and I haven't noticed any marked
difference in volume between the original DVD and the end result. I'm ripping
them primarily for use on my second gen Apple TV and am using that preset with
a couple of custom video tweaks. The audio presets are unchanged from the
defaults that come with Hand break. I'm also using it in conjunction with
Fairmount (which uses VLC).

I've done a bit of reading and the general consensus as far as my research goes
is that there's no way to change the audio volume when encoding with Hand break
itself. People seem to be suggesting changing the volume of the file in iTunes
(increasing it to 100% in the "get info" dialog) when you want to watch it. Of
course, this doesn't solve the actual problem but I haven't found anything on
the forums, in the user guide or on other sites that can help at this stage. I
don't think changing the audio encoder would help, and I can't find anything in
the Hand break window (or preferences, presets etc,) that allows for increasing
the volume of audio.

There may be another solution out there and I'd be grateful to hear it, as I'm
about to start ripping movies and they may have a significant volume
difference.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help; I'm still learning about what works and what
doesn't with Hand break, but my problem was with the video quality (which has
been easily solved) - my audio has always been loud and clear.

Cheers,
Chantelle
