Hi  html:
When you plug in your device, iTunes will tell you all you need to know.  It 
will ask you if you want to create a new library, or keep what's on your 
device.  Then assuming you have stuff on there, you'll follow the instructions 
for having it back up yourdevice.  Most of it's pretty easy to follow.
