Ed, make sure your airport device is turned on.

Then use the list of networks and make sure you can pick up your SSID or 
network name, it should appear in the list.

If you see this network pick it and press enter.  If you're required you'll 
have to enter your password also known as a key.

If the key is already known or the router is insecure you will not be prompted. 
 If you don't see your network listed then plug in directly to the router with 
a cable and see if that works.  Use the process of illimination to rule out 
issues.
