You can but you have to jailbreak your device and use some special non approved applications.
The verizon device will have this feature. That's a real edge. I'd almost switch for that but honestly I think the ATT network will be faster than VZ's EV-DO 3G system. I may jump ship on the IPhone 5 but for now I'm not wanting to take the hit in performance. If you want to do something similar you could use the Sprint Overdrive or 4G MyFi. Not sure if you live in a 4G city but it works quite well and provides WiFi access up to 5 devices.
