Hi Teresa, I'm not sure if you're in the US, but the ipad 3G does not require a data plan in the US. It is somewhat progressive in it's handling of 3G data usage in that there is no contract and you can start and stop and restart your 3G data on a monthly basis directly from the ipad with no penalties. You can pay US $15 per month for 200 MB of data or US $25 per month for 2 GB of data, or pay nothing if and when you don't need 3G wireless.
