Hello Christina, Pages is very accessible so I'm wondering if you have the wrong version of iWork. The one you need is iWork09, all previous versions are inaccessible.
In Pages, you have to interact with the Layout area, then with the Layout Item, at which point you are on page 1 which consists of three parts: the Header, the Body, and the Footer.
